The first Technical Committee Meeting (TCM) for Energy Efficiency Label for Residential Buildings was chaired by Shri. Abhay Bakre, Director General (DG), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The  DG,  BEE  welcomed  all  the  participants  and  shared  his  initial  remarks  about  the  proposed labelling program for residential buildings in India. He mentioned that the proposed program is very important for the country to meet the objectives of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for India. He envisaged that the initiative will gauge support from the stakeholders and policy makers to successfully implement this program. The Committee agreed on following decision points:

1. The major focus will be on the following four categories and there will be 4 working committees for the following aspects:

  • Scope of labelling program – Eligibility of homes (scope of the label) and parameters for labelling
  • Design of label – Graphic design and content of information
  • Baseline and benchmarking – Approach on baseline with provisions of EPI & RETV, if possible and categorization of star ratings
  • Administration and Enforcement - Mechanism for operationalize and implement the program including administrative framework.

2. Small groups comprising the different stakeholders from Technical Committee will be made who will specifically focus on each of the above category (1a to 1d)and share their technical inputs and recommendations to BEE.
